Chondro-protective supplements are important for all pets with arthritis.  Glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), Ester C and magnesium are the most important ingredients in joint supplements for pets.  Some of these compounds are the building blocks of cartilage, and arthritis pain increases when cartilege is lost.  By supplementing these important building blocks we help the body replace lost cartilage, thereby reducing pain.  The other compounds in these supplements decrease joint inflammation which decreases arthritis pain.  These supplements are are extremely safe and have been proven to be effective in numerous scientific studies.  These supplements also improve the effectiveness of other arthritis treatments when administered together.
