Form: topical liquid

2 sizes for cats: 9 lbs or less (orange); over 9 lbs (purple)

Frequency of administration: monthly in most cases, may be applied more frequently under a veterinarian's direction

Active ingredient: imidacloprid, a relative of nicotine

Mode of action: spreads throughout the skin after application and then kills fleas on contact by affecting the flea nervous system

Adverse effects: hypersalivation if ingested orally.

Contraindications: cats less than 8 weeks of age; pregnant, nursing or very debilitated animals
