Sentinel- Flea, Heartworm & Parasites

sentinel.gifForm: flavored oral tablet

4 sizes for dogs: 2-10 lb (brown); 11-25 lb (green); 26-50 lb (yellow); 51-100 lb (white)

Frequency of administration: monthly

Active ingredients: milbemycin oxime and lufenron

Mode of action:

  • Milbemycin oxime: disrupts the neurotransmitter GABA in invertebrates, thus preventing heartworm, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm infestations
  • Lufenuron: inhibits chitin (chitin is unique to insects and is a component of the egg shell and insect exoskeleton)  formation which causes flea eggs to develop improperly, thus preventing flea eggs from hatching.  Does not kill adult fleas.

Adverse effects: Sentinel can cause shock in dogs with heartworm disease.  Dogs should be tested for heartworms before starting any heartworm preventative.

Safe in pregnant and nursing dogs
